Grey Matters

In the very first knesset, there was a "joint religious list" uniting agudah and the mizrachi. For the first time since, its seems possible that this might be done once again.

What gives?

A Black Hat.

R' Arye Levine, R' Charlap and there were others too like them.

Today, we live in an extremely polarized world of black and white. As President George W. Bush said and didn't do, "your either with us or against us".

The Mizrachi today is viewed as a totally different entity of frum jews than the chareidim.

Nobody today is leaving Etz Chaim to fight in Etzel and then go back to learn in Merkaz Harav.

The mizrachi of once upon a time presented a ideological challenge to the ideology of the agudah.

Today, the mizrachi is no longer a threat to chareidi judaism, due to many factors. Chief amongst them, that the mizrachi no longer has leaders that are talmidiei chachomim of stature recognized as such by gedolei yisroel. Rav Tzvi Pesach Frank sat on Beis Din with Rav Shmuel Salant, was raised by Rav Chaim Sonenfeld and then established the Chief Rabbinate with R' Kook!

The agudah of today, has no ideology that anyone can articulate. In the knesset today, they simply represent the conglomerate of chareidi communities that vote for them.

Uniting for a common cause is not even achdus, its just cooperation for hopefully mutual convenience.

For the sake of the Yeshivos and Kollelim, (who would all not be in this quandary if they wouldn't take government funds) let's hope it works.

your very statement, indeed your entire article, shows why it won't work. unity, that is to say something beyond "cooperation for hopefully mutual convenience" requires respect for the other, something which you lack entirely.
